Last.FM 2025 notes

 There isn't much new in this post, but it is a summary of the 2025 listening stats, thanks to last.fm sending me a summary of that sort of thing.

Regular readers will already know 2025 was my biggest year, per track numbers, since last.fm and I cuddled up in 2006. 

 

top artists? predictable. Top album, I see there are a number of compilations in there from Moochin' About, one of my favourite labels. Top track, no surprise there either. It does turn up on most of their live albums ...

I had a feeling I hadn't listened to as much new music last year and the stats support that. But the ones it calls out are great, that Steve Rothery/Bioscope is brilliant. and new Steve Wilson is most enjoyable.

apparently i didn't love many tracks last year, but i did listen to a fuck load of music each day. 

there ya go, next up in post land, comparison on the Alec and Bruce damage their liver expedition.

By the end of August, things continued to look good. Target was 16,000 and I was on 16403. Admittedly my daily run rate has dropped slightly, it's now down to the high 67s, but the required run rate (note this is worked out to 31 Dec) is under 30 tracks per day. Everything is good !

What a bloody hero. 

Currently listening to Jane's Addiction (Nothing's Shocking) as I am totally over forecast and allocations for projects. Sure we might have a small issue (cough billions) of disparity between the two, but I blame other regions. Mine is not too bad. Honest.

Anyway, I have cake tonight. So that helps.

Last.FM update #4

 #4 ? Bloody hell, I'm almost doing a series...

* Target for the year was to hit the 20,000 individual track plays for the year, to which end I'd set up a spreadsheet to analyse how things were going, what my current run rate was, and what I had as a required run rate. My aim was to try and hit 20,000 by end of October as that gave me a couple of months if I needed them. Also, 2000 tracks a month was a nice round number. 

At the end of July, if I was sticking to the plan, I'd have hit 14,000 tracks (my 2,000 a month). In an attempt to overdeliver, I was sitting around 14450 giving me significant latitude for relaxing. But that, that would be the wrong approach.

where are things at? As of yesterday afternoon, 14654. 

Evrything looks great, Current run rate continues to hover just under 70 a day, and my required run rate is sits at 35 a day (although this is planned against 31 Dec). 

Huzzah !!!

Last.FM scrobbling update

Last year I fell agonising short of 20000 tracks played (and scrobbled to last.fm), read about the pain of 19660 tracks here. 

Anyway, I decided to aim for 20000 this year, getting me back to the halycon days of 2013. That works out to 5000 per quarter (roughly), or 54.79 tracks per day. I decided, to give myself some breathing room, that aiming for 2000 per month was achievable, and if I managed that I'd break 20000 around Oct/Nov. Setting me up for a) actually managing the 20000 and b) a massive increase over the 20000. 

Sure I could just spin a lot of very short tracks (Napalm Death's "you suffer" seems ideal), but that seems like cheating. 

I have setup a spreadsheet to map current and require run rate. Because, of course I have. 

4 April update

halfway through the day and I'm sitting at 6434 tracks played this year, significantly over the 5000 I needed for the end of March. Here's snip of the run rates (data and graph - the green signifies it's over 60 tracks per day, there are colour changes as this drops before 65/day).

Last.fm listening 2024

 The now predictable end of year summary from last.fm on what I've listened to.

I haven't done a best of 2024 yet, but I might...

2024 had me listening to more music than I have since 2014, almost breaking the 20,000 tracks (last time I did that was 2013).

I don't think there's much point commenting on this. Quite predictable, although I did listen to more Hawkwind this year, the result of Record Collector having a special edition on them.

Most tracks from an album is a little silly, when the top album (Leatherbritches) is a 100 track compilation of old americana stuff. Actually most of those albums are compilations, with a number of tracks ... 

For a similar reason I haven't included the decades analysis, as my albums don't always have the release year in them (if it's a reissue, or I don't care...).

 The most listening happens on a Thursday? Well golly, I should mention that to Thurs night music night !

I appeared more dedicated to listening to stuff this year. Especially in Dec when I realised I had the chance to break 20,000. But I failed. 

If I decide to become more focussed in 2025, that would be 55 tracks a day. As of the 8th Jan, I'm slightly ahead of that at 59.3. Everything is looking good! I have yet to fail !

Coming up soon, an untappd what I have I drunk summary with comparisons to Alec, and maybe a top10 albums. Or at least 10 albums I liked in 2024. There is a whisky tasting near the end of the month, which is a maybe...

Last.FM year update

 What did I listen to last year? one of the benefits of last.fm is that it records what I've listened to from the laptop and the phone. I'm also retentive enough to scrobble digital versions of the LPs i'm listening to. So I'd say this is pretty accurate.

No real surprises there. The categories (eg prog rock) are Last.FM's not mine, I don't think I've got anything filed under prog. 

I see Prince is in the top artists - twice. I quite like Prince :D 

Last.FM 2022 summary

 Hi all, last.fm is a helpful wee site that collates (via an app) all the music you listen to. They then helpfully, summarise that each year for you. 

For those of you with addictive personalities, this can become an issue, I couldn't possibly comment, but some people have been known to replicate their vinyl playing on an mp3 player, just so the tracks are added to the last.fm site... 

No real surprises this year, I listened to fewer new artists, the top 10 artists is rather predictable (although note, they are not huge numbers...as there's a lot of diversity in the list). The most music was on Thursdays (huzzah, Thurs Night Music Night), and, err, I quite like the new Marillion album.

 Thanks to last.fm and scrobbling from my phone, laptop, and my OCD (why, yes, I do play the digital version when I'm playing vinyl too...) here's the list of stuff I've been playing.

Tunes of 2020

I'll probably pull together a top10 albums list at some point, but in the meantime here's the last.fm stats on what I listened to in 2020. 

So Top Artists for 2020:

So no huge surprise there. The Floyd will be due to the Later Years boxset, and the Prince boxsets also got hammered last year.

I don't remember playing the magic flute that much, oh well. of the most played 2020 albums, the three I'd really rate are Mark Kelly's Marathon, Borknagar, and Fish. But for sheer fun, Powerwolf win everytime.

Last FM listening report 2019

I'm thinking I might try and write a bit more this year, I realise blogging is largely a dying format, but hey, I'm ok with that. Might do more work on creating new recipes for me and recording, vaguely, what I put into them...

But, music. Last year's music in particular. I scrobble all my tunes to last.fm so I get pretty accurate listening reports. And yes, I am sad enough that i'll scrobble from spotify or my mp3 collection if I'm spinning an LP. Don't judge me, I'm more than capable of judging myself.

Down a bit from last year, which reflects a few months of no Thurs Night Music night while I was living in Wellington and the music was in Dunedin. But we're back to normal now, so I'd hope for an increase on this for 2020. 

Fewer artists, albums and tracks this year, possibly reflecting the reduction in overall music. Also I don't have spotify in my new role, so I'm not randomly finding things as much. Being back with the music collection now, there's likely to be more YouTube holes I go down, finding new artists.

No huge surprise there. A number of those artists released new albums this year 

Oddly I would have thought Dimmu Borgirs new album, Eonian might have popped up as I thought I'd spun it quite a few times. Oh well.
